Alzheimer’s Research UK is yet again funding another project to get closer to its objective of finding a cure and better treatment methods for Alzheimer’s.

Professor Louise Serpell from the University of Sussex conducts the latest project and Alzheimer’s Research UK is funding this research up to £155,324.23 as of the time of writing this article.

This funding is a result of contributions made by thousands of donors around the world working towards supporting the operations of Alzheimer’s Research UK. The project is named; ‘The spark that ignites Alzheimer’s disease: Initiation of sporadic disease’ and it is expected to be completed by 31st July 2026.

Recent work in the area of causes of Alzheimer’s has identified the proteins amyloid and tau as triggers for the development and progression of the disease. Thus, Prof. Serpell and her team attempt to find out what causes these proteins to fold disrupting nearby nerve cells which ultimately leads to memory and thinking problems.
